THE SOUND OF JOHN QUALTROUGH

BASS-BARITONE

John sings in concerts and musical productions, to audiences both large and small, as well as at special events, dinners and dances. He especially likes supporting charitable and community events with his singing, often alongside musical friends.

About John

John has won many prizes as a solo singer and especially likes to sing in support of good causes. He has helped to raise some £120,000 so far by singing in support of charity events.

He has also won the top awards at Music Festivals, on several occasions, such as those in Cheltenham, Southport and Bristol.

John has sung as soloist in St Martin-in-the-Fields, on HMS Victory, in the Colston Hall, at the Three Counties showground Proms, accompanied by the English Symphony Orchestra, a personal recital in Tewkesbury Abbey - and many others. He has held leading roles in oratorio, opera and light opera, and in a variety of ensembles, receiving superb reviews for his performances. He also sings to small audiences in support of good causes, for disadvantaged people and community events.

He has a very wide repertoire, ranging from opera and oratorio - including Messiah and Elijah - through English and French art songs and lieder, to popular songs, Scottish songs, ballads and comic songs.

John particularly likes songs that reflect the culture and traditions of the British Isles - such as songs of the sea, military songs, those based on British poetry - and humour! His love for them and for all music started with his upbringing in a family and community of music-loving folk in the Isle of Man.

He now lives in Gloucestershire.
